Principal’s Report
SHANE DUPUY

Many of you will be familiar with the following:
Peregian Beach College commenced in 2002 as a Primary School. The College’s objective was to meet the needs and hopes of local families who were seeking a high quality but common sense and responsive approach to the education of their children. The school aimed to provide an educational environment which gave students a strong sense of personal worth and belonging and which attempted to reflect and promote the positive values (reflective practice, inclusivity, service of others and excellence) of its families.
Peregian Beach College has a unique educational philosophy and a clearly chosen commitment to the concept of an educational community. Community-building is seen as a value as well as a critical foundation for a happy and successful education for its students.
Within this philosophy of education, students are encouraged and given opportunities to develop a happy self confidence that is based on competence, respect for self and others, and a healthy sense of independence. The students learn progressively to assume responsibility for their own learning. They also learn how best to be contributors in their personal lives and in a world where the need for compassion and social and cultural understanding is increasingly important.
Next year, we will celebrate our 25th anniversary as a college for the Peregian Beach and surrounding district community. Whilst it’s a significant milestone of which we are immensely proud of, I feel it’s worth recognising that there doesn’t need to be a numerical milestone in order to celebrate our achievements. Every day, we are presented with opportunities to revel in, and reflect on, the successes of our students.
Our annual Fete, which has been reintroduced the past 2 years, is a fantastic community event. The success of our fete not only highlights the extraordinary efforts PBC staff and our PIPS group go to in creating such an occasion but seeing the college swell to hundreds of families enjoying each other’s company and watching their children participate in a range of fun activities, is a highlight of the year. The college grounds are transformed into a welcoming, festive and relaxing space for all to enjoy and celebrate being part of the PBC community.
Our ‘Under 8’s Day’ is another opportunity for our Junior Primary students to come together and celebrate this chapter in their educational journey. No doubt you will see our social media pages highlighting just how much fun our younger students have at PBC. Thanks again to our dedicated Junior Primary teachers and Primary Coordinator, Mrs. Kerin, for organising such a heart-warming and fun-filled morning. I’m sure the smiles on our students’ faces are all the thanks our staff need.
Recently, our Football Academy students competed in matches against some of the highest rated clubs in the region. Comprehensive victories against ‘Gold Level’ clubs highlights just how well our academy program is developing our aspiring athletes.
Other examples such as our students’ participation on camps and the positive comments we receive from camp providers regarding their application and behaviour, the amazing Book Week event Miss Tania organises every year, our Primary Talent Show or our successful results from our Multilit Literacy program are reason to celebrate. All highlight what a great place PBC is and what a special group of students and families we have to share our journey with.
Term 4 is always a busy one, with final exams and graduations for our senior students, end of year assessments for all year levels, student reports, transition periods and class parties. I wouldn’t miss it for the world and look forward to continuing to celebrate all things PBC with our community for the remainder of this year and into the next.

It has been another wonderful week in the Primary School, with plenty to celebrate as we continue to build connections, embrace new opportunities and look ahead to an exciting term!
Under 8s Day – Celebrating 70 Years of Play
This morning, we celebrated Under 8s Day with the theme 70 Years of Play, recognising the important role that play has held across generations. It was a fantastic morning filled with fun, exploration and opportunities for our youngest learners to engage in hands-on experiences. We were delighted to welcome our ELC Kindy children and families enrolled to begin Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 in 2027, giving them a wonderful opportunity to connect with our school community and experience the joy of learning at PBC. A huge thank you to Coolum SES and Bricks 4 Kids for joining us and helping make the morning such a memorable experience for our students and visiting families and thank as always to our fantastic team of teachers for their planning and organisation.
Student Leadership and Transitions
Our Year 5 students are currently working through their student leadership applications, taking an important step towards developing their leadership skills and considering how they can contribute positively to our College community. We look forward to seeing our students demonstrate the initiative, responsibility and service to others that reflect our PBC RISE values.
Our strong transition programs also continue this term, with preparations underway to welcome our newest Prep students in 2027 and support our Year 6 students as they prepare for the exciting move into Year 7. These transition experiences play an important role in building confidence, strengthening connections and ensuring students feel supported as they take their next steps in their learning journey.
Celebrating World Teachers’ Day
On Friday 30 October, we will celebrate World Teachers’ Day, an opportunity to recognise and thank the wonderful teachers who make our Primary School such a special place to learn, grow and belong. Our teachers bring dedication, care, creativity and a genuine commitment to helping every child flourish. The positive relationships they build with students and families are at the heart of our school community, and we are incredibly grateful for all they do each day to make a difference.
Thank you to our amazing teaching team for the energy, enthusiasm and care you bring to PBC. You help make our Primary School a place where students feel valued, supported and inspired to be their best.
I look forward to sharing more of our Primary School’s achievements and celebrations with you as the term continues!

World Mental Health Day – 10 October
Mental Health Month is held in October each year, with World Mental Health Day taking place on 10 October. This provides a wonderful opportunity to shine a light on mental health, break down stereotypes, and remind everyone that it is always okay to ask for a helping hand. It also reminds us to take a moment to hit pause, check in with ourselves, and reflect on how we can look after our own mental health and wellbeing.
At PBC we are passionate about teaching kids how to look after their mental health. Students learn that, just like physical health, everyone has mental health. They learn that good mental health is more than just the absence of mental health conditions. It is about equipping our ourselves with the resilience to handle life’s natural ups and downs, the confidence to reach our highest potential, and a deep sense of belonging that inspires us to give back to our communities. Our goal at PBC is to empower students with the essential mental health tools they need to not just get by, but to truly flourish in life.
Want an easy way to build positive mental health habits with your kids? Mental Health Australia has put together calendars filled with quick daily wellness ideas for October. We’re sticking one on our fridges at home— and we highly encourage our school families to join in too.

Navigating the Final Stretch
This term, our Year 11 cohort have stepped into the rewarding but demanding journey of their Year 12 courses. Starting Year 12 is a monumental milestone, bringing a mix of high energy, big goals, and understandable nerves for the whole family. To help parents navigate their supporter role, ReachOut have developed several parent tip sheets including a practical feature, Surviving Year 12: A Parent’s Guide to Self-Care.
For our Year 12 students, at the other end of their Year 12 journey and approaching their final external exams, the pressure to perform can feel incredibly overwhelming for both teens and their families. While a bit of stress shows they care, unmanaged pressure can quickly lead to burnout. To help you guide your child through this demanding period, we encourage you to read ReachOut’s comprehensive guide, Practical Strategies for Managing Exam Stress. The article maps out actionable ways you can help in the lead-up, during, and after exams—from co-creating structured study plans and optimising sleep routines, to managing high expectations and celebrating their hard work regardless of the final score.

Growing a Community of Readers
At PBC, we are passionate about developing strong literacy skills and a lifelong love of reading. In our younger years, programs including InitiaLit, SpellEx and MiniLit SAGE provide explicit teaching to build students’ reading and spelling skills. Weekly Primary Library lessons with our wonderful Miss Tania nurture curiosity, enjoyment and a passion for books.
Across Secondary, students read daily through their classwork and explore quality literature through the curriculum, continuing to develop their understanding and appreciation of reading.
Our STAR READER program runs every Wednesday and Friday morning at the front of the school, where staff sit alongside students and read with them. Quality books are available, and parents of younger students are warmly invited to stay and share a story with their child. Each term, we celebrate our readers with a Pizza Party or Frozen Yoghurt Parfait Party. Please come along!
Beyond reading, our Inclusion Team and Learning Coaches work alongside teachers across Primary and Secondary to help students access learning and experience success. This includes classroom and assessment adjustments, organisation and planning support, and quiet spaces to learn or reset. Relationships are central to our work, helping students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking support.
Inclusion is carefully woven into the fabric of our College, helping every learner participate, belong and flourish. Families are always welcome to contact the Inclusion Team to discuss their child’s learning and support needs.

Hello Readers

Monday 27 October through to Thursday 30 October
8.00am to 3.30pm Kelly Library

Your child may show you a ‘wish list’ they have filled in whilst browsing the books during the Fair in Week 4 this term in the hope that they would (with your help if needed) purchase the book they wish to have.
