A Time to Reflect and Celebrate
As we reach the midpoint of another busy term, there is much for us to reflect on and, importantly, celebrate as a college community. The past month has provided so many opportunities for us to come together, enjoy each other’s company and celebrate the achievements of our students, staff and families.
The annual PBC Fete remains the highlight of our events calendar, bringing our community together to celebrate all that makes our college so special. Once again, this year’s event did not disappoint. Seeing our students engaging so positively with their peers, families, friends and teachers as they worked on their stalls, families reconnecting in a relaxed and welcoming environment, and our talented students performing for the audience made for a truly fun-filled and heart-warming evening.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making the Fete another outstanding event. A special mention must go to Kate Hansell, our PIPS team led by Jess Britten, and Alec Wareing, who were the key drivers behind the event. Your time, energy and commitment to PBC are greatly appreciated. We managed to raise just over $10,000 which was a fantastic result. We’ll keep families notified on what we intend to put the funds towards.
A special mention of congratulations must go to our P-2 students who are achieving fantastic, improved results as they work through their literacy program. Assessment results highlight significant gains in reading, writing and comprehension. I have had the pleasure first-hand of seeing this progress when reading with students and seeing their work as they proudly present it to me in my office. Congratulations to the students on their continued hard work, and also well done to the diligent teachers and families supporting these amazing children on their academic journey.
As I mentioned in the previous Emu Chronicle, this term is jam-packed with events alongside an already busy curriculum. The Fete, Halloween Disco, World Teachers’ Day Breakfast and Book Fair, together with a raft of excursions and sporting competitions, have certainly kept us on our toes during the first five weeks.
And there is still plenty to come. Our senior students are undertaking external examinations, while students across all year levels are completing assessments as we work towards graduation, assemblies, end-of-year celebrations and transition sessions for 2027. The breakneck pace of the term shows no signs of slowing down.
With so much happening, I encourage all parents and carers to regularly check in with their children to ensure they are managing the demands of their workload and sporting commitments. Just as importantly, please keep an eye on their physical, social and mental wellbeing. Sometimes a simple conversation, a little extra support or a reminder to take a break can make all the difference during a particularly busy time of year.
Thank You for Your Feedback
I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to the many families who have stopped me for a quick chat, attended an information session, called to discuss a matter or taken the time to send an email.
The positive and respectful way in which our families engage with me, members of the leadership team and our teachers is one of the things that makes PBC such a wonderful community. Not every conversation is necessarily an easy one, and that is okay. What I value most is the willingness of our parents and carers to share their perspectives, raise concerns, offer feedback and advocate for their children in a constructive and respectful way.
Strong communities are built on open communication, mutual respect and a shared commitment to doing what is best for our young people. I am grateful for the trust our families place in us and for the important role you play in helping make PBC the vibrant and supportive college community it is today.
As we head into the remainder of the term, let us continue to celebrate our successes, support one another through the busy times and make the most of the many opportunities still ahead of us.
Thank you for your continued support of PBC.

Class Placement Process for 2027
As we approach the end of the year, we are beginning the important process of forming class lists and allocating teachers for 2027.
This is a thoughtful and detailed process that takes into consideration a range of factors, including each student’s academic needs, social connections, emotional wellbeing, gender balance and overall class dynamics. Our goal is always to create balanced, supportive learning environments where every student has the opportunity to thrive.
We ask that families place their trust in us throughout this process, knowing that our students’ best interests are always at the heart of every decision. Our staff dedicate considerable time and care to discussing and considering the arrangements that will best support each child’s individual growth and success.
We also recognise that families may have important information or circumstances that the school is not yet aware of and that may be relevant to the placement process.
If there is something you feel should be reiterated or new information you would like us to consider when planning for 2027, we invite you to submit a letter addressed to me. Please place your letter in a sealed envelope and deliver it to the Main Reception. We ask that you clearly outline the information you would like us to consider, along with the context and reasoning behind your request.
All letters must be received by Friday 20 November 2026 (the end of Week 7, Term 4).
Thank you for your ongoing support and trust as we work together to ensure the best possible outcomes for every student.

With an emphasis on participation, teamwork and encouraging one another, the day promises to be a fantastic opportunity for students to build house spirit, get involved and enjoy some friendly competition with their peers.
Term 4 Learn to Swim Program
After an unexpected delay and the postponement of the first two weeks of our program, we were delighted to finally welcome our Prep to Year 2 students to the pool for the start of our Term 4 Learn to Swim Program!
Thankfully, the wait was worth it, with absolutely perfect weather greeting our students for their first lessons.
Delivered by qualified instructors from Manta Swim School, the program provides valuable opportunities for students to develop their swimming skills, build water confidence and strengthen their understanding of water safety.
It was wonderful to see our students getting involved, embracing the lessons and making the most of their time in the water. We look forward to watching their confidence and skills continue to grow over the coming weeks!

We would like to wish our Under 10 and Under 13 Boys Futsal teams the very best of luck as they prepare to compete at the Australasian Champion of Champions event from 5–7 November.

Good luck, boys! Play hard, support one another and, most importantly, enjoy the experience. We look forward to hearing all about it!

Primary School – End-of-Year Celebrations and Reminders
As we move towards the end of another wonderful year in Primary, there is plenty to look forward to! The coming weeks are filled with opportunities to celebrate the learning, growth and achievements of our students, and to bring our school community together.
Our Primary End-of-Year Concert next Friday will be a special highlight, showcasing the Performing Arts lessons and learning our students have enjoyed throughout the year. It is always wonderful to see our students share their talents, build confidence and take pride in their performances. We look forward to celebrating their creativity and hard work with our families. A big thank you to Mrs Jonker for putting this all together with our students for parents and families to enjoy.
We also have our P–3 and 4–6 Swimming Carnivals approaching, along with our House events. These are fantastic opportunities for students to demonstrate their team spirit, encourage their peers and represent their House with pride. Whether students are competing in the pool or cheering from the sidelines, we encourage everyone to get involved, have a go and celebrate the achievements of others. This is a great opportunity for our Prep – Year 2 students to showcase their skills from our Learn To Swim program currently in place.
Our youngest and soon to be newest learners are also reaching an exciting milestone, with our final Prep Transition Morning and Parent Session taking place on Thursday 26th November. It has been a pleasure welcoming our 2027 Prep students and their families into our College community and supporting them as they prepare for this exciting next chapter.
As the year draws to a close, we will come together for our P–6 Awards Ceremony and Year 6 Graduation, recognising the achievements, growth, effort and contributions of our students. These occasions provide a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the year that has been and celebrate the many successes, big and small, across our Primary School.
Our Year 5 student leadership process is in full swing with student preparing their leadership submission statement and leadership speeches. These will take place in Week 7, and our 2027 Student Leaders will be announced at our Awards Ceremony.
A reminder about hats at playtime
With the warmer weather upon us, it is important that all students have their school hat at school each day. Our No Hat, Play in the Shade rule is enforced during playtimes to ensure we are keeping our students safe and protected from the sun.
Please take a moment to check that your child has their hat, that it is clearly named and that it is brought to school every day – a hat is required not only for playtime, but also for PE lessons, excursions and Movement programs. A quick check at home can help avoid the disappointment of missing out on outdoor play or activities with friends!
There is still so much to celebrate as we head towards the end of the year. Thank you to our families for your continued support and partnership throughout 2026. We look forward to sharing these special moments with you and finishing the year on a positive note!
Secondary Coordinator Report
MARK O’CONNOR

As we head towards the final weeks of the school year, it is great to see so many positive things happening across our Secondary School. There is certainly a sense of excitement as we celebrate achievements, recognise leadership and look ahead to what is next for our students.
Our Year 12 students have now commenced their QCAA External Examinations and are doing a great job at these. Having worked hard throughout their senior years, it is wonderful to see them taking on this final challenge with such commitment and determination. Examinations will continue over the coming week, and we wish all our Year 12 students the very best as they complete this important milestone. Stay calm, back yourselves and remember how far you have come! We look forward to welcoming them back for Graduation on November 20.
Our Year 11 students have also completed their nominations for the 2027 Student Leadership Team. It is encouraging to see so many students willing to put themselves forward and take on the responsibility of representing and contributing to our College community. There are a lot of criteria that are considered in such positions, including being excellent role models to the younger students and their approaches to their studies and school life in general. The final announcements of our new student leaders occurs at the upcoming Graduation Ceremony.
For our other Secondary students, we all encourage you to keep pushing yourselves as we approach the end of the year. It can be tempting to start winding down, but there is still so much to achieve. Whether it is preparing for an assessment, contributing positively in class or supporting those around you, every effort counts. Take pride in your learning, make the most of the opportunities in front of you and finish the year knowing you have given it your best.
These next few weeks are a time to continue to look out for one another, celebrate our successes and finish 2026 on a high. We look forward to seeing what can be achieved over these final weeks!

Christmas in the HUB
HUB Club Program | Weeks 5–9
As we head towards the end of the year, our HUB Club Program helps students feel supported, settled and ready to learn, while enjoying some festive fun. This year, our activities are inspired by Grow Your Mind (GYM).
Our Inclusion Team is part of the fabric of the school. We work alongside staff and students across the school, supporting learning in classrooms and taking part in GYM and Mind Movement activities. Through HUB Club, we aim to provide support where it’s needed while offering fun, structure and connection for students across all year levels.
This week, students have been bedazzling our GYM characters for Christmas, sewing baubles and having fun in our photo booth. A big thank you to Miss Kalina, our star crafter, for helping make it all happen!
Pop your head into the front office to check out our Christmas tree. We’ll be adding to it each week!

Library News
Hello Readers

WE SOLD 285 BOOKS!!! Selling so many books gives our little library over $800 in reward dollars to buy new books from Scholastic for our students to read. I am grateful to our supportive readers, and want to say thank you to every student, parent and colleague who made this another successful Book Fair.
Freddy O from Year 5 won the Guess Your Teachers’ Favourite Book competition, he scored 11 out of 11! Zander V from Kindy correctly guessed how many books he thought we would sell. Both boys were awarded popcorn, canteen vouchers and were able to choose a book from Scholastic.

It was a problematic end of the Book Fair this year🤣 As I was packing the books away, stacking up the props, counting the stock and putting away the signage, I ended up surrounded by witches, ghouls and ghosts 👻 I got very distracted and found myself wanting to join them on the Halloween dance floor! It was the best way to end my day – watching our students have so much fun while they boogied to the music.
Yours in reading every day
Miss Tania

League Tag
On Thursday 5th November, PBC entered a girls’ team in a 9-a-side League Tag event at Maroochydore. Our team consisted of four Year 7 students and four Year 9 students, competing in the Year 9/10 division.
For most of the girls, this was their first experience playing a Rugby League-style game. I am incredibly proud of the way they approached the day, demonstrating resilience, determination, and a positive attitude throughout, despite the challenging conditions and hot weather.
Playing with one less player on the field, having no interchange players, and, in some cases, competing against students three or four years older than themselves was no easy task. However, the girls continued to give their best effort, supported one another, and never stopped competing.
Their hard work and perseverance were rewarded in their final game, where they fought hard to earn an impressive 3-3 draw.
Congratulations, girls. You should all be very proud of your efforts and the way you represented PBC throughout the day!

Taking our writing from good to great!
Our Year 9 English students have been getting up, getting involved and working collaboratively to strengthen their analytical writing skills!
Students have been learning to craft strong authorial intent statements by identifying the director, using purposeful verbs and connecting their ideas to the film’s bigger themes. They then took their thinking one step further by using -ing verbs to deepen their explanations and move beyond surface-level analysis.
Students also explored how directors use film techniques, such as camera angles and shot types, to influence audience emotions and responses, supporting their ideas with examples from the film.
A great example of active learning, shared thinking and students building the skills to take their writing from good to great!
