Principal’s Report

WAYNE KENNEDY

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to Term 4.  The transition from September holidays to academic study has promptly been undertaken, with assessment tasks, excursions, swimming lessons, Sporting Academy programs and Mind and Movement activities all well underway. All assessment calendars have been distributed, with clear instruction provided by class/subject teachers and Co-ordinators on academic expectations and time frames.  End of Year reporting information and data collection will be prioritised for collation in coming weeks. The teaching team have been involved in professional development opportunities with respect to the newly completed PC Schools reporting system.  It is anticipated that the new reporting system will better meet the needs of the College’s growing population.

Our Year 12 students and the Senior School Teaching Team are working diligently to ensure that all preparations for the 2022 QCAA External Examination are all in good order for their commencement on Monday 24th October 2022. Year 11 students will also be undertaking an examination block in Week 4.  We wish all our Senior Students success.

An information evening will be held on Tuesday 18th October, commencing 5:00pm within the Kelly library. This is to convey information for our current Year 4 students transitioning into the Middle School and to provide subject selection information for our current Year 7, 8 and 9’s. Middle and Senior Secondary staff will be in attendance to convey specific subject information and to support students in the elective selection process. In the last newsletter, it was stated that Mr Dupuy and Mr Freudigmann would be hosting the Information Evening, however an employment opportunity was presented to Mr Freudigmann within Queensland Health that he has accepted.  The Leadership and Teaching Team farewelled Gary on the 13th October, and wished him every success in his new vocational pathway.  Please feel free to contact me with respect to any matters concerning Senior Secondary.

Prep Readiness and Taster Session

Also scheduled for the 18th October is the 2023 Prep Readiness and Taster session. The session will begin at 8:45pm and conclude at 10.00am. The children will meet the Prep teacher/s, engage in activities to help us learn about them and have morning tea. Parents will be expected to stay on site. The College would like to be able to confirm all Prep enrolments for 2023 as soon as possible, however delays in the submission of enrolment documentation is hindering progress. At present we have enrolment numbers to secure one Prep class (Mrs Adler is to be the Prep Teacher in 2023), however, we encourage parents still to submit documentation – to ascertain if there are adequate student numbers to establish a second Prep class.

2023 Planning

Preparation and planning for 2023 is currently underway, with projected student numbers in excess of 400 students.  The College is mindful of keeping class sizes to levels optimal for academic advancement (maximum of 24 students). To achieve this goal, all Year levels will have two classes in 2023, with Year 7 having three.  We have currently capped our Year 8 student numbers at 24, with new enrolments to be placed on a waiting list. To accommodate the growth in student numbers new buildings are scheduled April.  The College will reconfigure the placements of Junior/Middle & Senior sectors. Additional information will be forwarded in forthcoming newsletters.

Times: 8am – 8.45am, morning tea, lunch and 3pm to 3.45pm each day

Your family will have the opportunity to explore a huge range of affordable books featuring characters and subjects kids love and want to read about.  From newly released books and bestsellers to award-winning titles.

We can’t wait to see you there.😀

All students from Prep to Year 6 have been reminded about the importance of using a library bag.  This will protect our books and keep them in the library for a much longer period.  The rule is ‘no bag – no borrow’.  May I ask you to remind their child to put their books in their library bags when bringing them back to school. 😀

Maths Marathon

Year 5 are learning about compass points, grid systems and directions in Term 4.

Students had to create a series of clues that when read on the school map, would lead to buried treasure (a cone).

Students then took turns completing other maps, while timing their run.

Some teams became frustrated when the clues were poorly written, this opened up a whole new conversation up about communication (and handwriting).
