Principal’s Report

SHANE DUPUY

Rest, revive, survive

As Semester 1 draws to a close, it is important to take the time to reflect on all that has happened. We should celebrate successes that have been achieved and think deeply about lessons that have been learned. However, it is also important to chill out, relax and take a well-earned rest from the rigours of school life. Holidays are a great time for students to ‘get off the hamster wheel’, sleep in, wear preferred clothes, spend time bingeing their favourite shows and engaging with their friends outside of school. Teachers too, need to ensure they take the time to reconnect with their families and spend time disengaging from busy schooling schedules. With Term 3 promising much the same as the first half of the year, may I wish every PBC community member a fantastic holiday. Take a breath.

Staffing

There will be several changes to staffing at PBC next term.

  • Wayne Kennedy will be taking some well-earned long service leave, travelling through Europe for most of Term 3. Mrs. Tania Robinson will chaperone the tour and I look forward to the slide show upon their return. We have secured the services of Ms. Nico Lovegrove, a highly experienced Secondary teacher to cover Mr. Kennedy’s classes for the term. Ms. Brooke Allen, current PBC Teacher Aide, will take on library duties in Tania’s absence. We welcome Ms. Liz Frampton who will take on Brooke’s Teacher Aide role for 3 days.
  • Haylee Freudigmann is leaving the College as she has accepted a promotional position as the Head of English Department at Immanuel College. We thank Haylee for all she has done for the students during her time at PBC and wish her every success in her new role.
  • Janine Olsen will join the College to begin her role as the Inclusive Education Coordinator. May I take this opportunity to thank Ms. Alita Carpenter and Ms. Lisa Bell, who have gone above and beyond during Term 2 to ensure all students have continued to be well supported whilst awaiting Mrs. Olsen’s arrival.

Reports

Teachers have been working methodically for weeks in preparation for Semester 1 reports. Many hours are spent preparing  and marking assessments and collating data to finalise summative grades for subjects. They well and truly deserve their holidays! A big thank you must also go to our amazing admin staff in the preparation of Sem 1 reports, particularly to Shae, Tania and Kate who work tirelessly to ensure back of house systems allow staff to log comments and results. Parents can expect to receive reports via email next Monday, 26 June. Please go through the report with your child to celebrate successes or discuss areas of improvement.

Interviews will be conducted during Week 1, Term 3, Monday to Friday from 3:15pm – 4:30pm.  Parents are asked to email teachers directly to secure an interview time. For each subject, teachers have checked either ‘required’ or ‘welcomed but not required’.

  • Required:  there is an expectation that parents/caregivers will contact the teacher to book an interview.
  • Welcome but not required:  should you wish to meet with the subject teacher please contact them directly by email to arrange a time.

Working ON the business

  • The College Board have invested heavily in the College this first half of the year. During Term 1, two new coaches were purchased to assist with the transportation of students to excursions and sporting events.
  • Daymap (College) and XPS (Academy) are new learning management systems (LMS) that will streamline communication between teachers / coaches, parents and students / athletes, Timetable Solutions and Oliver are new internal operating systems that have been purchased to enhance daily operations in the office and library. Key staff have only recently been upskilled in the use of these systems with further professional development next term. PBC families will begin to see the benefits of these systems as we roll them out in the second half of the year.
  • The 4 new demountables earmarked for our senior school students are due for completion during the holidays. These new classrooms will be equipped with new TV’s, A/C, fridges, external decking, and a new toilet block. New concrete paths and gardens will complete the build. A special thanks to builder Damo, maintenance team Adam, Josh and Pepe , as well as a host of local tradies that support the College for their efforts in getting the rooms ready.
  • Works are imminent to install new data cabling on campus. This will ensure we will have more reliable internet access.
  • The much-anticipated Sports Auditorium is expected to have construction underway during Term 3.
  • Internal renovations for our Guidance Officer were completed at the end of Term 1 and a similar space will be created for our Inclusive Education office during the holidays.

ASHLEIGH MORRISON

Happy holidays Families!

I am sure I speak for all of the teachers and support staff when I say, thank you so much for the opportunity to work in partnership with you throughout the Term 2. It has, once again, been a fast and fun filled term in the Junior School, with fabulous learning experiences, presentations, Mother’s Day and fundraising events, excursions, sporting events and more.

I know that several families have already met with myself and their children’s teachers this semester to discuss academic progress and achievements. All reports will be sent out next week and many of the teachers have clicked on parent interview ‘requested’ within these reports. Please read over the reports carefully and if you would like to discuss your child’s progress with the teacher, make a time in week one of Term 3, to do so.

Here is wishing everyone a safe and refreshing holiday break. For those who are travelling, please stay safe. I look forward to seeing you next term.

What a beautiful day to say farewell to Term 2. We are so lucky that we get to play and learn in such a beautiful place. I am so lucky that I can come to work every day and engage with the amazing teachers and students who have chosen Peregian beach College. Thank you all for your outstanding efforts this term.

I would like to personally acknowledge our amazing Haylee Freudigmann who is leaving us this term. I am incredibly gratefulto have worked with her over the past 6 months. Her professionalism and the care and kindness she shows our students has made her one of the favourites here at PBC. Whilst she will be sorely missed, I wish her all the best as she moves into a new and exciting phase in her career.

 School Attendance Matters
Education for your child is important  and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. Here at Peregian Beach College we encourage and support regular attendance of children and young people by working together with our families. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.

Earlier in the week you would have been contacted by your childs classroom/homeroom teacher outlining some of our important school processes when you child is planning to be absent or has been absent from school.

Families are encouraged to travel during school holidays. If travel during school term is necessary, please contact the school admin team who will advise you of the process and direct you to our extended leave applications. Students in year 11 and 12 may not be granted leave during busy assessment period. Absences relating to travel will be marked as leave on the roll and therefore contribute to your child’s total absences for the year.

Readers Cup

Readers Cup is organised by the Qld Branch of the Children’s Book Council of Australia. It is a state-wide competition for young readers. This month, PBC participated with a year 5/6 and 7/8 team. Our teams worked together to read a set of books, and then compete with other teams to answer quiz questions from the books. Readers Cup challenges students to read widely, work collaboratively and continue developing a love of reading. It allows readers to compete at a regional and state level similar to sporting competitions and to meet other students with an equal passion for books.

Congratulations to our passionate readers, PBC is proud of you! Abby B, Jaycie M, Mya A, Lily H, Morgan S, Mia C, Aoife H, Olive JB.

SERVICE

Warm beds, full bellies and happy hearts.  Congratulations to the first ever Student SERVICEs team for putting on such an amazing fundraiser for the RSPCA.  They have been making toys for donation to the RSPCA, along with organising a cupcake stall and Pyjama Day.  Thank you also to the PBC community for donations and for raising $840.30.

Mr Dupuy had some helpers today load up the car for him to take all of the donations to RSPCA Noosa who couldn’t be more grateful.

Land for Wildlife Gardening

The Land for Wildlife Gardening students have been busy this term planting and tending to our native gardens around the school. This week we learned all about Squirrel Gliders. We looked in one of our nesting boxes and the students were fortunate to see this cute, little family!

Squirrel gliders are nocturnal and nest in tree hollows. They range from vulnerable to threatened and even endangered in different states of Australia, due to habitat loss. Fortunately, they are doing well in Queensland. When leaping from tree to tree, they can glide between 50 and 100m using their gliding membranes. They forage for pollen, nectar, tree sap and insects. Squirrel Gliders serve an important role as pollinators of our flowering eucalypts.

Student Services

Sea Life

PREP & YEAR 1

Prep and Year 1 visited SEA LIFE to consolidate their understanding on external features, how to care for ocean animals and their habitats.

Students were treated to a three hour, fully guided tour with knowledgeable Education Officers leading the way. Prep and Year 1 began their excursion at the Seal presentation before exploring the aquarium.

A particular highlight was exploring the depths of the ocean tunnel. Students witnessed eight species of shark, majestic rays and countless reef fish; a sense of awe and wonder was definitely felt by all!

To top off an amazing day, we watched the unique little blue penguins diving, chasing and playing in the water.

Thank you Sealife!

Athletics Carnival

ALEC WAREING

We recently hosted not one, but two exhilarating Athletics Carnivals! From the young preps to year 3, all the way to the talented students in years 4-12, it was a day filled with boundless energy, remarkable achievements, and a true sense of camaraderie. We would like to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to making these events an unforgettable success!

First and foremost, a massive thank you goes out to our extraordinary students. Your determination, sportsmanship, and unwavering enthusiasm throughout the day were truly inspiring. It was remarkable to witness your talent shine on the track and in the field events.

We would also like to extend our appreciation to the parents and families who showed up in full force to support our young athletes. Your cheers and words of encouragement added an extra spark to the already electric atmosphere.

A huge shoutout to our amazing PIPS team for their relentless efforts in organising and coordinating a BBQ at the years 4-12 carnival. Your dedication and hard work behind the scenes ensured that everything ran smoothly, and we are incredibly grateful for your commitment to our school community.

Additionally, we would like to thank our outstanding staff members, as without them, the day simply would not go ahead. Your guidance, coaching, and enthusiasm played a pivotal role in making this day such a resounding success.

Last but certainly not least, a special thank you goes to the Noosa Little Athletics team for their invaluable support and collaboration. The expertise, resources, and assistance were instrumental in elevating our years 4-12 athletics carnival to new heights. We truly appreciate your partnership and look forward to more incredible events together!

In conclusion, our two athletics carnivals were an absolute triumph. The talent, enthusiasm, and teamwork displayed by our students were truly exceptional. Thank you to all the students, parents, PIPS, staff, and the Noosa Little Athletics team for coming together and making these events unforgettable.

Sporting Academy

Introducing the Fire BASKETBALL lead coach – JORDEN PAGE

Jorden was born into a prominent Sunshine Coast basketball family. Growing up at the Maroochydore Clippers basketball stadium, he learnt to play on the court named after his grandmother.

When he was 14 years old, after making multiple state teams, he competed in his first national championship. His trajectory was only upwards, doing Euro league tours in Germany, Italy and France with the Australian under-19 national team. In Australia Jorden played in leagues like the Queensland Basketball League and the South East Australia Basketball League.

In 2009, after playing in the under-19 world championship and being named the MVP, Page was conservatively dubbed the number seven ranked player coming out of Australia by college recruiters. Not too long after returning from the tournament, Page checked his pigeonhole at the AIS to find over 30 scholarship offers to play college basketball in the US.

Jorden’s investment into the Basketball Fire boys stretches over a full week of training including morning and afternoon sessions. His time and effort are evident in the results with the senior boys’ recent, very convincing win over Marsden State High School who are currently placed amongst the top 20 basketball teams in QLD! …… Watch this space…. !
