Principal’s Report

SHANE DUPUY

Congratulations Seniors

At 2:55pm today, our remaining Y12 students completed their final external exams. Over the past 3 weeks, it has been a special time for these hardworking leaders of the student body, who have spent time revising years of content to demonstrate what they’ve learned. Seeing them arrive, relaxed and smiling, I have been instilled with supreme confidence that they have done the best they can. Chatting with them afterwards, for the most part, a quiet confidence and a cheeky grin on their faces is enough to know that these students have been taught well. The results will be what they will be, but the fact that all have been able to walk out of the exam, knowing that their lives will not be defined by the ATAR they receive but by the mature and respectful young adults they have become, I know the staff who have worked with them will be immensely proud. Celebrating their successes at next Friday’s Graduation Ceremony will be the icing on the cake.

2024 Phone Policy

Falling in line with the rest of the country, next year will see the introduction of the ‘Away for the Day’ phone policy. Whilst there will be more information sent home next year, basically, students will not be permitted to be accessing their phones during the day. In the event that the use of a phone is required, students will be able to come to the office to make calls. Those students who currently use their phone to pay for food at tuckshop will be requested to make use of the pre-ordering system, use a flexi-card or pay cash.

2024 Uniforms

There will be a few minor adjustments to the uniform expectations next year. For all students from P-6, PE uniforms are to be worn every day. For Y7-12 students, formal uniforms are to be worn except on Thursdays or the days when your child has a PE lesson. Teachers have been asked to be vigilant in checking correct attire is being worn so there is no mixing of the 2 and parents will be notified if there are multiple infringements.

Arts Week

Thank you SO much to the families who attended our Arts Week Trail / open afternoon, last Wednesday. It was wonderful to see so many families wandering through the school, perusing the artworks created by the Prep to year 12 students. We had a huge number of votes to count for the people’s choice awards and the winners will be announced shortly.

It is with pleasure, that I can announce the proposed Primary Teaching Team, for 2024. Of course, this is subject to change, as many factors may impact on proposed structures provided 3 months ahead of time. Please note that we are not able to consider individual parent requests regarding preferred teachers.

Year 1 – new appointment

Year 2 – Jenny du Toit and Peta Golding & Emma Bourne (0.4)

Year 3 – Savannah Davis and Chloe Hetherington

Year 4 – Sharon Hemmings and Alaina Nealand

Year 5 – Mia Leyton and Amber Garratt

Year 6 – Jeannette Tolomeo and new appointment

Julia Blahuta will be heading off in 2024 to embark on some interstate travel and new teaching experiences. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Julia for all her efforts here at PBC. Julia has been an asset to our Junior School team for a number of years now and she will be dearly missed by students, families and teaching staff. We wish Julia all the best in her endeavours, and we have encouraged her to stay in touch!

I will also be making some significant changes within my role here at PBC, in 2024. I have been incredibly lucky to have spent almost a decade at the school enjoying a number of teaching roles; whilst holding numerous dual leadership positions during that time. I have been granted a change of pace next year; stepping out of leadership for the first time in almost 30 years, to follow my other passions and embark on some new adventures. I will have the pleasure in 2024, of teaching all of the Prep to Year 6 art at PBC, and I am wholeheartedly looking forward to the year ahead. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the leadership team members I have collaborated with throughout the last 9 years, as well as all of the staff and families I have had the pleasure of working with in partnership during this time.

Staff Bio

Staff Name:  Suse Macnicol

Where did you go to school?  The Forest High School, NSW

What was your favourite subject at school?  Everything that involved making – woodwork, metal work, home science (old lady language for cooking), textiles and design and of course my greatest love ART!

What is your favourite food?  My daughter and I decide on a particular culture or country, then we research the tastiest recipes and prepare our feast. This way, we can eat our way around the globe. I love middle eastern food especially ‘Persian love Cake’. (https://www.recipetineats.com/persian-love-cake/)

What are you hobbies?  I have two high energy, crazy, smart dogs. A shaggy Jack Russell named Tulip, and a Kelpie (we think he’s a dingo) called Ned. They demand attention: belly scratches, ball throwing, shredding soft toys or beach walks.  Their hobby is digging. My hobby is filling in all the holes and tunnels they dig.

Fun fact about you?  I spent most of my childhood on my dad’s boat on the Hawkesbury River. I adore the water. So, next year, I’m learning how to sail.

Visual Art is Alive!

SUSE MACNICOL

Greetings, PBC families and art enthusiasts! The walls of our school were recently transformed to showcase the amazing creativity of PBC students. Visual art is certainly alive with the remarkable talent and imagination of our students.

Classrooms and hallways were adorned with a vibrant array of artistic expression: whether painting, sculpture, or mixed media creation, the dedication and effort of our young artist’s is awesome.

Thank you to our visual art students for their commitment to creativity and your willingness to share your talents with the school community. The diversity of the hundreds of artworks is a proof of your hard work and passion.

A special thank you also goes out to the parents and family members who joined us during the art show. Your presence and support are invaluable in nurturing the creative spirit of our students. The encouragement and appreciation you showed means the world to them.

We received an overwhelming response from our community as hundreds of votes were cast for the People’s Choice awards. Stay tuned as we reveal the exceptional pieces that captured the hearts and votes of our school community.

The PBC Visual Art Show was not just a display of artwork; it was a celebration of imagination, innovation, and the power of artistic expression. It’s incredible to witness how art can bring us together, spark conversations, and inspire us in so many ways.

Warm regards,
Suse Macnicol

Dance Academy

INTRODUCING NICOLE & DIAN – “Fire Dance Academy”

Sunshine Coast Sporting Academy has made the decision to add Dance to our ‘Fire’ brand which sits within Sunshine Coast Sports Club and is currently used in Football, Basketball and Netball. From Term 4 PBC Dance Academy will become ‘Sunshine Coast ‘Fire’ Dance Academy’ and we will be working toward a new logo and apparel to reflect this.

It has also been decided that the academy wish to invest in staff at increased hours, who will be solely dedicated to coordinating and delivering our dance program at Peregian Beach College.

Therefore it gives us great pleasure to introduce Nicole Kaminski as our lead dance coach. Nicole together with assistant coach Dian Rattray have already started their interaction with the current dancers and will be focusing on the development and improvement of the dance program for 2024.

Nicole grew up in Perth, Western Australia, performing and competing as a young dancer. Upon concluding high school, she first completed a Certificate II in Musical Theatre at WAAPA, before moving to Victoria to complete her Bachelor of Performing Arts (Musical Theatre), at the University of Ballart in 2013. In 2019 Nicole and her young family made the decision to move to the Sunshine Coast. Today, Nicole have created the theatre company Coastal Theatre Collective, which she hopes will grow into a wonderful place for coast-based creatives to work and perform together for years to come.

Sunshine Coast Sporting Academy is looking forward to keeping the PBC community up to date with all the new dance developments.

For any dance enquiries please email dance@pbc.qld.edu.au or pa.sports@pbc.qld.edu.au
