Principal’s Report
WAYNE KENNEDY
Athletics carnival.
I would like to commend Mr Wareing for his Athletics Carnival preparation for our Prep – Year 12 Athletics Carnival, held on the 19th May.
However, even the best laid plans are sometimes at the mercy of the weather.
Intermittent showers throughout the morning, initially caused program modification, with running events being conducted in the morning, however due to Occupation Health & Safety concerns with respect to high jump, discus, and javelin events the carnival was cancelled at morning tea.
This Issue
Mr Wareing, Mr Cahalan and Mr Freudigmann will be incorporating athletic events into their HPE programs and will base District Athletics nominations on recorded results with HPE lessons.
Thank you to all parents that braved the inclement weather to attend the Athletics Carnival. A special thank you to our Parents & Friends volunteers for their resilience and perseverance to continue the BBQ lunch and sale of delicious treats for students throughout the day.
Sporting Academy
The Sporting Academy students’ numbers are continuing to escalate (76) and so are their accomplishments.
Dance
This week saw Scarlett T. & Elizabeth P. training with the Queensland Ballet. Scarlet recently completed in the Maryborough Dance Eisteddford taking out the Classical Ballet Championship. Michelle Bucci is extremely proud of her student’s. Michelle is confident that all the PBC Dance Academy students will make further advancement due to the College securing one of the most respected ballet teachers in Queensland for next term. Tennis
Six of our Development Tennis Academy students will commence competition this weekend within the Sunshine Coast Tennis League. Since the commencement of the Tennis Academy in September 2020, students have been training approximately four hours per week during school hours, with rapid development made with respect to motor and tennis skill advancement. (Many of our Development Academy tennis students are now doing additional training Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings). We wish all our Tennis Academy students all the best this weekend.
Football
Our Elite Football Academy students have entered several competitions in recent weeks including: the Bill Turner Cup, Noosa District Primary Soccer Competition – (our Year 6 students being victorious), and the Sunshine Coast School Futsal Titles (with the Under 12’s and the under 13’s winning the competition). The Sunshine Coast Fires Technical Director, Melvyn Wilkes, was extremely pleased by the professionalism shown by our Sporting Academy students throughout the above stated competitions.
New Playground Equipment
The College Leadership Team has been meeting with the REED Play Company Pty Ltd to discuss the installation of new playground equipment for the Junior School playground and a Fitness Station for the Middle & Senior School.
With the implementation of funds from the College Board and the Peregian Beach College Parent Information & Project Support Fundraising Committee (PIPS), plus an extremely generous Reed family donation we will soon see the removal of our existing playground equipment (the small slippery dip cubby house will remain) and new equipment being installed within the next 12 weeks.
Term 3
In preparation for Term 3, please be advised that Monday 19th July will be a Professional Development Day for staff.
Therefore, the first day back for students will be 20th July.
The Ministerial Student Free Day scheduled for Friday 3rd September will not be undertaken by the College.
Noosa Show Day will be Friday 10th September for which our College will not be open for.
Scholastic Book Orders
Scholastic Book Club Issue 4 for Kindy to Year 6 is now open for orders.
Parents please order online at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or download the LOOP app (orders cannot be paid through PBC office). If your child has not received a catalogue, please view the online version.
Your order will be electronically linked to the rest of our school’s order. You do not need to complete the order form.

- The email address to use for all correspondence relating to student absences is admin@pbc.qld.edu.au, this email address is accessed by all administration staff. Please add admin@pbc.qld.edu.au to your address books so that our emails to you don’t go to your junk email folder.
You can also lodge an absence via the form on the website located here. - Don’t forget to order canteen through the My School Connect app – orders are to be placed no later than 9 am, this app will also be used for musical ticket sales later in the year.
- When signing students in late or signing them out early please ensure to put a reason in the text box for College records.
- Please ensure students are in their correct uniform, we are going to be checking to make sure that the uniform policy guidelines are being followed, this includes correct footwear with formal uniforms.
Containers for Change
One of our fundraising initiatives is the Containers for Change recycling program.
Orange bags are available in administration for you to collect your empty recyclables.
We have a drop off point in the back corner of the carpark.

Bus Transport – SEATBELTS
We are seeing repeated instances of students not wearing seatbelts while travelling on school buses despite repeated requests from drivers.
As all of our school buses are fitted with seatbelts, it is a requirement BY LAW that these must be WORN AT ALL TIMES while in the vehicle.
Please understand that it is NOT the drivers responsibility to monitor the wearing of seatbelts as their attention needs to be on the road. It is parents responsibility to inform their children of seatbelt laws and the risks of not wearing one.
We would appreciate your cooperation in this matter, and further correspondence will follow to families regarding our Bus Transport Code of Conduct and the consequences of not complying with the code – Note: written warnings and travel bans will be implemented.

LYNN BACK
Prep Large Scale Artwork
In Visual Art classes, our beautiful Prep children created large scale butterflies, leaves and caterpillars to decorate their entryway.
Their creations are now hanging and swinging on the breezes to delight all the Prep children and families each day.
The children experimented with acrylic paint, posca paint pens and crayons when they blended their colours and drew lines, shapes and their favourite objects.
Thanks Preppies, you have created such a special artwork for all the school to enjoy over the coming years.
Aquatic Practices
Aquatic Practices wrapped up its unit on aquaponics with a large harvest of cucumbers. The Food tech class was able to take the yield and make bread and butter pickles in their preservation unit.
The Aquatic practice students have since been spending their double lessons at Lake Weyba doing a study of mangrove health and physiological adaptations. The outdoor classroom has been well received by the students!
ELOs
Guided drawing and Yoga
From sloths, flowers, owls to pugicorns, our Guided drawing and Yoga friends have been experimenting with shape, size and colour.
There is always a lot of creativity with tiaras, tutus and rainbows being regularly added to their creations.

Year 6
Year 6 have been focusing on eggs! We’ve had many a laugh in the class with lots of eggcellent puns!
Students have cooked many recipes highlighting the various functions eggs have in recipes including French toast, bacon and egg pockets, mini quiches…..
Year 7
What sort of muffin would you eat for breakfast?
It must be nutritious and appealing to the eyes and tastebuds.

Year 8
Year 8 have been investigating Australia’s food cultures. What is modern Australian food and how did this come to be?
They are developing their own ‘fusion’ of flavours from two chosen culture in their very own pocket.

Year 9/10
Year 9/10 Food Technology have been focusing on Food preservation this term. One of the products they have made is bread and butter cucumber pickles.
Some of the finished bottled bread and butter cucumbers are pictured below, together with the senior Aquaponics garden and one of the PBC cucumbers!
We finished off with mouth watering Lava Cake!

What’s Your Totem?
In History, Year 4 students have been studying what life was like for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples before the arrival of European settlers.
Students have been investigating the meaning of and significance of Totems to Indigenous communities. Year 4 proceeded to select an Australian native animal to be their Totem that they thought best represented their personality.
Everyone agreed that the best part was getting our hands dirty and making the Totems out of clay!
We had some great Totem choices ranging from the ‘Kangaroo who loves and cares for its family’ to the ‘strong yet quiet Echidna’ and the ‘elusive, mysterious Tasmanian Tiger’.
Well done Year 4 – awesome work!

Explanation Texts
Year 5 students planning, researching and writing explanation texts for English.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Year 6 students were given the opportunity to put the challenging concepts of fractions, to design a board game for a Maths investigation.
Students enjoyed playing the games, which provided further practise in the topics that we have learnt in class.
Year 10
JOEL GREEN
Geography
Students have completed a variety of field work studies as a part of our Geography unit this term – Environmental Change and Management.
On Tuesday, year 10 students visited lake Weyba. Students conducted field studies in order to compare and analyse differences in environments.
Students did this by setting up a transect line or conducting field sketches in order to analyse, record and make evaluations based on the findings they made about these local environments.
Student Achievements
Basketball
Nate M and his team have been promoted to play under 16 boys club on Mondays, and under 14 boys club on Wednesday.
The boys have their final carnival weekend on the 29th & 30th May in Brisbane and at the Clippers stadium Maroochydore. They currently sit 4th on the ladder but will most likely finish in the top three, which is great for their debut in Under 14s Premier League. They are the only team to represent the Sunshine Coast area in the division.
They will then head to State Championships beginning of July in Toowoomba for a 4 day event, which will cap off the end of their season.
Dance
Zoe T competed with her first Lyrical solo at the Sunshine Coast Dance Eisteddfod gaining 3rd place.
Scarlett T recently competed in the Maryborough Dance Eisteddfod taking out the Classical Ballet Championship.
Maya E placed third in her contemporary solo at the renowned dance competition “Get the Beat” and was accepted into the state finals which will be held in June and August 2021.
Maya also recently completed her level 5 Vaganova ballet exam gaining distinction.
Elizabeth P and Scarlett T have both received ongoing places at the exclusive program at The Queensland Ballet where they spend one week each term undertaking professional full time training with the most elite ballet teachers in Queensland.
