Principal’s Report

SHANE DUPUY

As we draw this term to a close, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible strength, spirit, and togetherness that has been on full display across our PBC community over the past month. It has truly been one of those periods in the school year when the heart of PBC shines brightest, when students, staff, and families come together to honour achievements, support one another, and create lasting memories. I am deeply proud of what we have achieved together.

This season always brings with it a special mix of celebration and reflection. We proudly congratulated our Year 12 students as they completed their schooling journey, an inspiring milestone that reminds us of the power of perseverance and the bright futures that await them. A fantastic assembly followed by formal evening was enjoyed by our senior students, families and staff. Thank you to Mr. McDuff and Shae for all the organising and decorating.

Our PBC swimming carnivals showcased not only athletic excellence but also unmatched team spirit. Whilst I would have expected to have seen many more student participants in the Secondary carnival, a special congratulations must go to those students who joined in, as well as the staff who were given specific roles on the day to ensure the event ran smoothly. A huge thank you to Mrs. McDuff for preparing such a smoothly run program for both Primary and Secondary carnivals.

The annual PBC Fete once again proved to be a vibrant celebration of community, creativity, and generosity. Congratulations to all students, teachers and families who supported the event. To be able to wander through and see so many smiling faces and have the opportunity to chat informally with parents and friends was fantastic. A huge thank you to Mrs. McDuff for leading the fete organisation, ably supported by Kate, our PIPS group and hardworking groundsmen.

Across the school, our Primary and Secondary Awards ceremonies honoured students who exemplify effort, growth, leadership, and achievement. We also celebrated our Year 6 graduation, marking the exciting transition into the next stage of schooling, while our transition days for the 2026 Year 7 cohort gave us a first glimpse of the enthusiastic learners who will soon join our secondary school family. Well done to Mr. McDuff, Mrs. Kerin and Mr. Wareing for organising these celebratory events.

With celebration also comes farewell, and this year we acknowledge the contributions of several staff members who have served PBC with dedication and care. We extend our warmest thanks and heartfelt good wishes to Bernie Evans, Nikki Willers, Heather Hagemann, and Tracey Dalgliesh as they move on to new chapters. Their commitment has left a meaningful legacy, and they will be greatly missed by students, colleagues, and families alike.

Thank you once again to every member of our PBC community. Your support, involvement, and positivity continue to make PBC a place where young people thrive and feel proud to belong. Enjoy a well-earned holiday season. Stay safe, relax and remember to breathe.

College Coordinator Report

ALEC WAREING

As we reach the end of another remarkable year at our Peregian Beach College, we take a moment to reflect on the achievements, challenges, and growth that have shaped our community. From our youngest Prep students taking their first steps into formal learning, to our Year 12s preparing to embark on new and exciting journeys, this year has been a celebration of learning, resilience, and connection. Across the school, classrooms have been filled with curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. Our students have embraced opportunities in academics, sport, the arts, leadership, and community service, demonstrating not only their talents, but also their character.

A highlight of the year has been the ongoing strength of our community. Staff, families, and students have worked together to build a place where everyone feels valued and supported. Our recent school fete is the perfect representation of this. As we look ahead, we are excited to welcome new families joining us next year. We look forward to helping them feel at home and to seeing how they enrich our community with their own experiences, strengths, and stories.

To our graduating students, departing families and staff, thank you for the mark you have left on PBC. We wish you all the very best as you begin your next chapter.

As the holidays begin, we encourage families to take time to rest, reconnect, and enjoy meaningful experiences together. Children don’t remember their best day of television, but they remember time spent with those who love them.

As we close the year, we extend our gratitude to all students, staff, and families for your ongoing support and commitment. Thank you for contributing to a year filled with learning, laughter, and lasting memories. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year and continuing to build a school community we are all proud of.

Primary School Coordinator Report

NICOLA KERIN

As we reach the end of another memorable year in the Primary School, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the achievements, experiences, and relationships that have made 2025 so special.

Our camps and excursions were once again highlights of the year. It was a pleasure to personally attend these experiences alongside our students and teachers and to strengthen the relationships that are at the heart of our school. Watching students challenge themselves, work as a team, and embrace new learning beyond the classroom was a reminder of why these opportunities are so valuable.

Across the school, our transition programs were strong and purposeful. Prep students entering their first stage of schooling felt welcomed, prepared, and confident, while Year 6 students continued their journey toward high school with maturity and excitement. These carefully designed programs help ensure every child feels supported as they take their next steps in learning.

Our student leadership process brought enthusiasm, thoughtful applications, and a genuine desire to serve. I look forward to working with our 2026 Primary School Leaders, knowing that they will build a tradition of responsibility, teamwork, and pride in our school. I am genuinely in awe of their eagerness and passion for their newly appointed role, with many of them keen to hold our first meeting to share their ideas and get started! It is with pride I announce our Primary Leaders for 2026:

School Captains – Billy P and Milly O

Curlew House Captains – Ashton C and Jasi W

Emu House Captains – Kosta B and Zoe V

Jabiru House Captains – Zeek K and Amelia H

Peer Support Leaders – Charles M and Rio C

All Year 5 students who reached Stage Two of the application process, will be invited to form part of the Peer Support group, with many ongoing opportunities for building on their leadership skills and having a positive impact in the primary school community.

This week, we had the honour of celebrating our official Year 6 Graduation Ceremony with staff, students, and families. It was the perfect occasion that recognised the hard work, growth, and accomplishments of our senior primary students. We wish them every success as they move into the next chapter of their education.

I would also like to acknowledge the strength of our Primary teaching team. Their passion, professionalism, and unwavering care bring joy to our PBC community each and every day. I am reminded of this each time I step outside my office at drop off or pick up times, walk into a classroom or around the school, and when I tour prospective families to the college. It is a privilege to work alongside such dedicated educators who consistently put students first.

As we look ahead to next year, there is much to be excited about. Our 2026 Primary Leaders will have active involvement in the school community, helping to shape events, support younger students, and continue building a positive school culture. We will be introducing SpellEx in Years 3 and 4 to strengthen spelling and vocabulary through engaging, evidence-based learning. SpellEx has been developed by MultiLit, who also developed the InitiaLit program which has had much success in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 over the last 2 years at PBC. Our teachers have been trained in delivering this program and we look forward to continuing the growth and success we have seen in P-2 since its implementation. Years 5 and 6 will benefit from incursions focusing on leadership and teamwork, supporting both our newly appointed leaders and aspiring future leaders. And — back by popular demand — our Talent Show will be even bigger and better, (hint… keep an eye out for class performances!)

A final and heartfelt thank you to all families for your continued support throughout the year. We wish you a safe, joyful holiday break and look forward to another year of growth, achievement, and community in 2026.

Secondary School Coordinator Report

NIGEL MCDUFF

End of Year Wrap Up

It has been very hectic in Secondary School these final weeks.  The Year 12’s wrapped up their schooling with a Graduation Ceremony, followed by the traditional swim at the beach in their uniforms, and then their Senior Formal on the same day.  All ran smoothly and we hope the Year 12’s take away some great memories from their last day of school.

After the destructive afternoon storm and the subsequent closure of the school for a day, we rescheduled the Secondary School Awards Ceremony to the final week of school.  It was great to present academic awards, sports awards and particularly RISE awards to our students.  I would like to make special note of our RISE awards winners and our prestigious Australian Defence Force award winners from the event.

Rise Awardees:

                  Year 7 – Harper W

                  Year 8 – Morgan S

                  Year 9 – Mia T

                  Year 10 – Parker S-G

                  Year 11 – Andy H

ADF Future Innovator Award Yr 10 – Ashley R

ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award Yr 10 – Finn W

2026 Role

With the departure of Mrs Hagemann, I will be absorbing the role of VET and Pathways Coordinator within the Secondary Coordinator position.  My office has moved up to the Library and students and parents are welcome to drop in and discuss subject and career choices, and also communication relevant to the Senior School.

I would like to thank Heather for her work in this area over the past 2 years setting up and investigating alternative pathways for our students.  Her passion and enthusiasm in this area will be difficult to replicate.

School Captains 2026

At the recent graduation and awards ceremonies, we announced the School Captains for 2026.  Congratulations to Keiki M and Aston S on being selected to lead the school next year.  With a small cohort of Year 12’s, Keiki and Aston will also have the role as house captains within their leadership portfolio for 2026.  We look forward to great things from these two students.

Student Services

As we celebrate the end of another busy and rewarding school year, we want to recognise the incredible growth shown by our students. This year, our young people have taken part in a range of wellbeing initiatives—including Wellbeing Days, the Grow Your Mind program, and The Resilience Project—all designed to build emotional literacy, gratitude, empathy, mindfulness and confidence.

These programs have supported students to understand their feelings, strengthen their relationships, and develop practical strategies for managing challenges. We are proud of the way our students continue to apply these skills both inside and outside the classroom.

As we move into the holiday period, we acknowledge that the break can be a positive time of rest but may also bring moments where additional support is helpful. To assist families, we are sharing the Digital Mental Health Resources brochure, developed by eMHPrac and funded by the Australian Government. This evidence-based guide highlights a range of free or low-cost online programs, apps, counselling services and wellbeing tools that young people can access at any time.

Some of the services featured include:

We encourage families to explore these resources and keep them handy over the holiday break. Supporting our young people’s wellbeing is a shared effort, and having accessible tools available can make a meaningful difference.

We wish all students and families a safe, restful and joyful holiday season. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2026.

Student Shout Out

We received an email from the Peregian Beach Surf Lifesaving Club about one of our students. It is always a pleasure to recognise one of our own who is doing an amazing job in the community. Well done Cruz. Please see email below:
This letter is to inform you—and thank you—for the positive impact one of your students is having within our community.
This Winter, Cruz M successfully attained his Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) and has since been volunteering in a way that is above and beyond that that is expected. From the early days of the 10-week training program, it was evident to the club that Cruz would be a standout volunteer. He consistently offered to help set up and pack down equipment, was always willing to assist, and quickly became the go-to person for lifesaving demonstrations.
On September 28th Cruz completed his first patrol. His fellow patrol members were impressed by his eagerness to learn and his ability to fit seamlessly into the team. That very same afternoon, while on a family fishing outing, Cruz showcased his lifesaving skills by jumping into action when he saw a young child struggling in the Maroochy River. Thanks to his quick thinking and the training he received, Cruz was able to rescue the boy and alert the child’s family. His proud family remarked that the skills learned through the SRC empowered him to act decisively in that critical moment. Our Club Captain added that Cruz’s positive attitude was just as important as his training in making that rescue possible.
Cruz is truly living out your school’s core values—and teaching them to us. We’ve witnessed his interactions with other kids of similar age in the park, and it’s remarkable to see how those who may once have feared authority are now engaging with lifesaving and even considering following in Cruz’s footsteps. This ripple effect is building a stronger, safer community.
We are so proud of Cruz—his bravery, commitment, and leadership—and we hope you are too.
Warm regards,
Daniel Forlonge

Personalised Planning – Transitioning PLP’s for 2026

Thank you for your support and engagement in our Personalised Planning process throughout 2025. Students with additional needs will have a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) in place that identifies the adjustments and supports that best help them engage in their learning. Updated PLPs have been emailed home this week, along with a JotForm link for signing, to ensure these supports are clearly documented and seamlessly passed on to your child’s teachers for 2026.

PLPs will be reviewed in Semester 1, as required. If further supports are needed at any time, we will arrange additional discussions to update your child’s plan. If you have any questions, would like to discuss adjustments, or need help accessing your plan, please reach out to me via email j.olsen@pbc.qld.edu.au

Our Inclusion Team has had a wonderful and productive year supporting students in classrooms, small-group programs, and during break times through our HUB Club program. We are proud of the growth of our learners and the strong partnerships formed with families and staff.

Wishing you all a safe, joyful, and restorative holiday break.
