Principal’s Report
SHANE DUPUY

Welcome to Term 3!
Dear Families,
Welcome back! We hope you’ve all enjoyed a restful and refreshing three-week mid-year break. As Term 3 begins, we’re thrilled to see our students return with energy and enthusiasm, ready for another busy and exciting chapter in the school year.
This semester will see a change to our Emu Chronicle cycle. Previously, the newsletter was published to families fortnightly. Given the amount of emails families receive from both admin and teachers, as well as social media postings on our Facebook page, the Emu Chronicle will now be published in Week 1, Week 5 and the last week of term.
Camps Are Coming!
This term is particularly action-packed with one of the highlights being school camps for nearly all year levels. Primary students in Years 2, 4, 5 and 6 and Secondary students in Years 8, 10, 11 and 12 will be heading off on enriching camp experiences designed to build independence, strengthen friendships, and foster resilience. These experiences are a valuable part of our curriculum and provide meaningful learning beyond the classroom.
Please note that school camp attendance is expected for all students in eligible year levels. If you have any concerns, whether they be medical, financial, or otherwise, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher or sector coordinator as soon as possible. We’re here to support every student and family in making the most of these opportunities.
A Growing School Community
We’re delighted to welcome 16 new students to our school this week, and we expect that number to grow, with at least 7 prospective student interviews scheduled over the next fortnight. It’s wonderful to see our community expanding, and we encourage our existing families and students to help make these new members feel at home. A friendly hello, an invitation to join a lunchtime group, or simply a welcoming smile can go a long way in helping others feel a sense of belonging.
Along with our new families, we would also like to extend a warm welcome to a new member of staff. Mr. Barry Butler has taken over the secondary ICT classes. Barry is an experienced ICT and Science teacher with his most recent position being the Maths, Science and Digital Technologies Teacher at Saigon Star International School in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for 2 years. Prior to this, Barry spent 8 years at Coolum SHS in a similar role. With experience as a software developer, business owner, Director of a Robotics Academy, a Degree in Agricultural Science, Certificate III in Aviation (Drones) as well as being an accomplished musician, I’m excited for the students that will benefit from Barry’s broad range of expertise.
Looking ahead, we’re pleased to report that enrolment interest for 2026 is already looking strong, with a particularly encouraging increase in female applicants. It’s a positive sign that our programs and values are resonating with a wider audience, and we’re excited about what this continued growth means for the future of our school.
As we launch into what promises to be a dynamic and fulfilling term, we thank all families for your ongoing support and engagement. Your involvement is what helps create a connected, vibrant, and inclusive school culture.
Here’s to a successful and memorable Term 3!
Parent-Teacher Meetings
Next Tuesday, 22nd July, will be our Parent-Teacher Meetings. At PBC, we believe that student success is a team effort, one that involves not just our dedicated teachers and enthusiastic learners, but also the vital support and engagement of parents and guardians. That’s why parent-teacher meetings are such a valuable part of the school experience. It is best practice to have students join in these discussions so parents are requested, where possible, to bring their child with them.
Why Are Parent-Teacher Meetings Important?
Parent-teacher meetings offer a unique opportunity for open communication between home and school. These meetings allow parents and teachers to:
- Understand Student Progress: Teachers can provide insights into a student’s academic performance, work habits, social development, and behaviour in the classroom; information that may not always come through in report cards.
- Set Shared Goals: Together, parents and teachers can establish clear, achievable goals tailored to the individual needs of the student, ensuring that everyone is on the same page when it comes to academic and personal growth.
- Address Challenges Early: Meetings give families and educators the chance to identify and discuss any learning or behavioural challenges early, and to work collaboratively to develop strategies and solutions.
The side road between the college and the football oval is a designated utilities road only. This area is not intended for parent or student access by vehicle at any time.
Please do not drive, park, or drop off students along this road. It is strictly reserved for service vehicles and staff operations, and unauthorised use creates significant safety concerns.
With many children and pedestrians moving through the area, especially before and after school, vehicle access on this road presents a serious risk to student safety. We ask for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone on campus.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the college administration.

ALEC WAREING

Welcome back to Term 3! We hope everyone had a restful break and is returning refreshed, ready for the exciting months ahead. As always, Term 3 is shaping up to be a dynamic and enriching time across the College, with plenty of opportunities for learning, growth, and connection.
Year 12 Update
Our Year 12 students will sit their Mock Exams in Week 9 (starting 8 September). These exams are a key part of preparing for their external assessments in Term 4, offering a valuable chance to practise under real exam conditions.
Further details, including the timetable and expectations, will be emailed to families during the term.
Details regarding the Term 4 exam preparation period, including revision sessions and structured study support will also be emailed out during the term.
This Term students are completing Unit 4. As a matter of priority students should be checking their QCE credits. Checking QCE Credits: https://myqce.qcaa.qld.edu.au/
Year 8, 9 & 10 Subject Selection
Subject Selections – Years 8, 9 & 10
Thank you to all Year 8, 9, and 10 students and families who have submitted their subject selections for 2026. We appreciate your support in helping us plan effectively for next year.
We’re currently finalising the last few submissions and will lock in subject choices shortly. Our goal is still to advise students and families of their allocations early this term.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this important process.
Assessment Calendars – High School
Assessment calendars for Term 3 will be distributed at the start of Week 3. These calendars provide an overview of key assessment dates and help students stay organised and manage their time effectively.
Please keep an eye on your emails and we encourage all students to use them to plan ahead and seek support early if needed.
P-6 Math Boosters
We’re excited to launch Math Boosters this term—targeted support sessions delivered through LTD (Learning Through Doing). These sessions are designed to strengthen core skills, build confidence, and improve numeracy skills.
Led by members of our experienced High School Mathematics team, Math Boosters offer students the chance to revise key concepts, ask questions, and engage in focused, small-group learning.
We encourage invited students to take advantage of this great opportunity to boost their progress and confidence in Maths this term.
PBC Lunch Clubs
Our PBC Lunch Clubs are back for Term 3 and there’s something for everyone! From Art, Board Games, and Mindfulness to Drama Games, Garden Club, and more—students have a fantastic range of fun and inclusive activities to choose from each week.
Lunch Clubs are a great way to relax, make new friends, and explore interests outside the classroom. Be sure to check the club schedule and come along!

Primary School Coordinator Report
NICOLA KERIN

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope all of our families enjoyed a well-earned break and are feeling refreshed for the exciting term ahead. A particularly warm welcome to the new families who have joined us this term – we are so happy to have you as part of the Peregian Beach College community and look forward to getting to know you better in the coming weeks.
Our Prep 2026 Transition Program continues this term, with our much-loved Prep Story Time sessions and Little Emu Playgroup commencing this term. These experiences are a gentle and joyful introduction to school life and provide a wonderful opportunity for our youngest learners to become familiar with the Prep environment and our staff. It is always such a pleasure to see the excitement on their faces as they explore, play, and make new connections. If you have a child starting school next year, or know a family with a child starting school, please reach out and we would be only too happy to guide and support you on this exciting journey.

Term 3 is shaping up to be a busy and engaging one for all students. Our school camps for Years 2–6 are just around the corner and will provide incredible opportunities for students to step out of their comfort zones, develop independence, and build strong bonds with peers and teachers. Camps are often a highlight of the year, and we look forward to sharing those special experiences together. We also acknowledge that camp might look a little different for each child, so we are committed to creating an opportunity where each and every student at PBC can experience camp and flourish in their own way and at their own pace.
Another much-anticipated event this term is our Primary Talent Show. This is always a vibrant and entertaining celebration of the diverse talents and passions of our students. Last year, we had a range of performances from singing and dancing to comedy and magic tricks, we can’t wait to cheer on all of our brave performers! Watch this space!!
Book Week will also take centre stage this term (definitely Miss Tania’s most loved event of the year!), with a range of literacy-rich activities planned to inspire a love of reading. The annual Book Week Parade is a favourite event on the calendar, and we can’t wait to see the creative costumes and imaginative characters brought to life.
Finally, this term marks the beginning of an important leadership journey for our Year 5 students. As we introduce the Year 6 Leadership Process, students will be invited to reflect on their strengths and values, and consider the many ways they can contribute to our school community as leaders in 2026. It is always encouraging to see their sense of responsibility and pride grow as they step into this process, and while there will be only a few formal leadership opportunities available for Year 6 next year, we encourage all of our Year 6 students to view themselves as leaders and role models within our primary school.
Thank you for your continued support – we look forward to a wonderful term filled with learning, growth, and connection. As always, please reach out if there is any further support I can offer you or your child.

Mobile Phones at School
At the last Senior School assembly towards the end of Term 2, I highlighted to all secondary students the rules and procedures regarding mobile phones at the college.
The key points for students and families to be aware of:
- “Away for the Day” is the motto. Once you cross the bridge at the front of the school your phone goes away in your school bag or your locker until the bell rings at 3pm.
- Students are not to carry their phone around with them during the day – it should be in your schoolbag inside your locker (with a lock on your locker)
- If caught with phone:
- 1st and 2nd offence – hand in to student reception and student can collect at 3pm
- 3rd offence – hand in to student reception and parent must collect.
- Students are not to use phones to contact parents during the day. Student reception will communicate with parents and vice versa for parents.
Your assistance with these procedures would be greatly appreciated.
Formal and Sports Uniform Days
Parents and students are reminded that PBC has both a formal and a sports uniform in the secondary school. On days students have HPE and/or Movement, they are permitted to wear the sports uniform for the entire day. On the other days without timetabled HPE/Movement, all year 7-12 students should be wearing the formal uniform.
Homegroup teachers will be following up with students who do not adhere to the uniform requirements of the college in coming days.
Students and families are also reminded that Academy clothing is NOT part of our school uniform and is only to be worn at trainings and academy excursions/competitions.
Year 12 Rite of Passage – End of School Year
Our Year 12’s are entering their final term of “normal” timetabled lessons in front of teachers in the traditional classroom setting. At the end of this term, they enter preparation and administration of QCAA External Exams, before officially finishing their school life on Friday November 21st.
In an effort to improve our procedures and processes with our Year 12’s, we have the following events planned for their last weeks of school this year:
- Term 3 Week 9 – Mock/Practice Assessment Block for Year 12 Subjects
- Term 3 Week 10 – Year 12 Retreat to the Gold Coast to recover from Internal Assessment and prepare for QCAA External Assessment.
- Term 4 Weeks 1-3 – Final subject preparations and study for QCAA External Exam Block.
- Term 4 Weeks 4-6 – QCAA External Assessment Block
- Term 4 Week 7 – Final Week – Thursday 20th November – Yr 12 Activities Day
- Term 4 Week 7 – Friday 21st November – Yr 12 Graduation Ceremony (am)
- Term 4 Week 7 – Thursday 21st November – Yr 12 Formal (pm)
Smart Pups
The College was lucky to have two special visitors this week. Millie who has just graduated from Smart Pups training, and Sox who is about to go into intense training.
Their handlers spoke with Prep – Year 6 about the program and showed the students some of the training Millie has mastered.
We will be helping to raise further funds for Smart Pups and will be selling $2 paws 🐾 🐕🦺 for the months of July and August.
We are aiming to get as many paws 🐾 on display in Student Reception as we can. Paws can be purchased from Main Reception.

Helping Students Manage Exam Stress
Tests, assignments, and exams are a regular part of student life—and they can often bring on stress, no matter the time of year. Whether it’s a major assessment or a routine classroom test, the pressure to perform can take a toll on students’ wellbeing.
Stress can affect concentration, sleep, and motivation, and may even impact family life. It’s important for students to have strategies in place to help manage these challenges in healthy, productive ways.
ReachOut has created a range of resources designed to support students and their families. These include practical advice on staying focused, looking after mental health, and building confidence during preparation and exam periods.

If your child requires a Personalised Learning Plan, Janine Olsen, the classroom teacher, and the appropriate Primary or Secondary Coordinator will contact you to arrange a meeting.
If your child is on a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP), you will shortly receive a copy of their plan along with an email. Please sign the JotForm linked in the email to confirm you have received and reviewed the plan.
Inclusion at PBC – Secondary Learning Coaches and Primary Teacher Assistants
Every lesson, every break time, our inclusion staff are out and about engaging in learning and building connections with all students across P-12. We are an inclusive community here at PBC, and our team enrich the fabric of our school community.
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) census will take place on the 2nd of August each year. The NCCD gathers information about the types of support provided to students at school, as well as the frequency and intensity of these supports. All information collected is de-identified to protect your privacy. This means no names or personal details are shared — the data helps schools and governments plan and improve support for all Australian students.
If you have any questions about your child’s PLP, the Inclusion Team, the NCCD, or any of the supports in place, please don’t hesitate to contact Janine Olsen via email at j.olsen@pbc.qld.edu.au.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we work together to help every child thrive at PBC.
Valor Esports Grant
We are excited to announce that Peregian Beach College has been awarded the Valor Esports Grant, launching a brand-new structured esports training program for our students. This initiative is about more than just games. It’s about helping students build essential life and career skills through an activity they love. Through weekly sessions powered by the Valor platform, our students will grow in areas such as:
- Communication & Teamwork: Students practice clear communication and cooperation under pressure — vital for both school and future work.
- Inclusion & Belonging: Over 60% of student esports participants nationwide were previously uninvolved in school life. Esports offers a welcoming space for everyone.
- Attendance & Motivation: Some schools report up to 10% increases in attendance, as students become excited to engage.
- Digital & Critical Thinking Skills: From game strategy to hardware use, esports enhances digital literacy, strategic thinking, and even interest in STEM fields.
We’ve already kicked off our first sessions and are thrilled by the enthusiasm and engagement from our learners. The esports program helps students develop:
- Problem-solving under pressure
- Resilience and leadership
- Focus and memory
- A sense of school pride and connection
We’re proud to be at the forefront of this exciting educational movement. Stay tuned as we share our students’ progress and success stories throughout the year!
Prep and Year 1 Excursion
The Preps and Year 1s had a wonderful day at Sealife Mooloolaba yesterday. We learnt so many interesting and quirky facts about all kinds of sea creatures. Did you know that sea jellies don’t have a brain, heart, bones or blood? Did you know that seals can stay underwater for 10 – 15 minutes before needing to come up for a breath? Did you know that starfish can grow limbs back? Highlights of the trip were definitely the Seal Show and the Ocean Tunnel Aquarium. What a fabulous day out!

ALTERNATE PATHWAYS
New Trade Apprenticeships
Some good news this week for two of our Year 10 students, who were so successful during their Work Experience, that they were offered apprenticeships! Jackson has secured a Carpentry apprenticeship with Hayden Barnett at Barnett Build (Caloundra), and Dawson W is looking forward to commencing his carpentry apprenticeship with Daniel Jones at Adapt Homes Construction. Both students will also commence a Certificate III in Carpentry, as school-based students. We are proud of the effort these students have put in to secure these opportunities, and I look forward to supporting them over the next two years.
UNIVERSITY PATHWAY
UniSC Open Day is approaching!
The university looks forward to welcoming prospective students, to discover where Uni could take them, and how to get there at UniSC’s Open Day. Open Day is on 4 August this year. Students will have the opportunity to meet the academics behind the degrees and explore their study interests, whether it’s engineering, urban planning or something completely different. Staff will also be there to chat about scholarships, overseas study opportunities, wellbeing support and everything else UniSC has to offer. Go to the UniSC website to register, for a chance to win a helicopter tour for two to K’Gari.
Early Entry – University
5 August 2025 – Applications open.
6 October 2025 – Deadline for students to submit application to their school.
10 October 2025 – Deadline for UniSC to receive school’s approved applications. Applications must be accompanied by a copy of the student’s most recent progress report or report card. Late applications will not be accepted.
Offer dates: 5 September, 19 September, 10 October, 24 October, 21 November.
Early Offer Guarantee gives you the chance to receive an offer to study at UniSC as early as September, long before ATARs and results are released so you can head into your final exams knowing you’re sorted for the year ahead.
The early offer is made based upon Principal’s recommendation and is independent of Year 12 results. The Principal will consider academic performance, as well as student motivation, talents, passions, and abilities to see if these are a match for success at university. If a student receives the Principal’s recommendation for the Early Offer Guarantee, then as long as you have met the prerequisites and other program-specific requirements for their chosen degree, they will receive an early offer to study an eligible program at UniSC. All offers made before the last day of school will be conditional upon completing Year 12. I will work with students on their applications, during the Tuesday and Thursday afternoon Mind & Movement times.
