Our Amazing PIPS (Parent Information and Project Support)
At the heart of every vibrant college community is a powerful network of supporters who believe in the mission and future of the college. Among the most dedicated members of this network are the parents of our students—partners who contribute not only through encouragement at home but also through vital involvement in our fundraising efforts and participation in the PIPS Committee.

Parents as Champions for Growth
Parents understand firsthand the transformative impact of a college education. Their advocacy and generosity have long been central to expanding academic programs and resources, improving campus facilities, and enriching the student experience. Whether through capital campaign support or running and supporting annual fundraisers, parent contributions directly impact the opportunities available to every student on campus.

The PIPS Committee: Building Bridges
The PIPS Committee serves as an essential bridge between families and the college. This dynamic group of parent volunteers works closely with college leadership to promote engagement, foster community, and mobilise support. Their work includes hosting events, providing insights from the parent perspective, welcoming incoming families, and helping to steward donors from our local community.

In many ways, the committee acts as a voice for all parents—helping the college remain responsive to family concerns while also inviting others to become active participants in supporting the future of the college.

PIPS Success Over the Past 2 Years
Since taking over the role of Principal in 2023, I have had the pleasure of liaising with our PIPS committee who have worked tirelessly to support college events including bake sales, Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls, sports carnivals, Easter raffles and fete. In that time, they have raised over $16,000. With the fundraising efforts focusing on the purchase of extra shade and seating, this amazing band of volunteers have allowed us to purchase picnic tables ($2,860), add a shade structure to B6 so our students can eat their lunch and play handball undercover ($12,786), and purchase 3 new 6x3m marquees ($7,745). Whilst we will continue to look to install further shade and seating, we will also begin investigating areas such as playground equipment, upgraded play spaces and other college beautification projects.

A Shared Mission
When parents give their time, expertise, and resources, they reaffirm their belief in the college’s mission and help ensure its continued excellence. Their involvement models civic responsibility and collective action for students and strengthens the bonds that connect families to the broader campus community.

We are deeply grateful to the many parents who have joined us in this shared mission—your partnership is invaluable. As we look ahead to new opportunities and challenges, your continued support will help us grow, innovate, and thrive.

ALEC WAREING

It’s hard to believe we’re already nearing the halfway mark of Term 2 — it’s certainly flying by! Since the start of term, we’ve welcomed several new students to PBC. We hope your child and family are beginning to feel settled and connected within our school community.

Last week, our school was filled with warmth and gratitude as we came together to celebrate the wonderful women in our lives at our Mother’s Day events. A heartfelt thank you to PIPS for running the Mother’s Day raffle and stalls — your efforts are greatly appreciated by us all. We hope everyone who received a prize enjoyed their gift.

Looking ahead, planning for 2026 is already well underway, with our upcoming Subject Information and Selection evenings fast approaching. Students who will be in Year 9 in 2026 will have their evening on 27 May, while students currently in Years 9-12 will have theirs on 3 June. These evenings are valuable opportunities for students and families to explore subject options and future pathways, and we look forward to seeing you there.

We are also now well into this year’s Grow Your Mind and The Resilience Project sequence of learning. It’s a great time to have a chat with your child about what they’ve learnt so far and the strategies they’re currently putting into practice.

NICOLA KERIN

Greetings Parents and Families,

As we approach the halfway mark of the term, it’s a wonderful to see students and classes settled into their learning and routines. As we prepare to commence the first official Prep 2026 transition event next week, I have been reflecting on the significant milestones that mark a child’s journey through primary school. The first year – Prep – and the final year – Year 6 – hold special meaning, not only for students and families, but for our whole school community.

Prep is where it all begins. It is a year of wonder, growth, and discovery. For many children, it’s their first time in a structured school environment, learning routines, building friendships, and developing a love of learning that we hope will stay with them for life. We are so excited to be launching our Prep 2026 Transition Program next week, beginning with our much-loved Storytime in the Prep Classroom. These early experiences help our youngest learners feel safe, welcomed, and excited about starting school. If you have a child starting school next year or have any friends or family with a Prep aged child for 2026, please contact us to find out more about our transition program and the enrolment process.

At the other end of the journey, our Year 6 students are preparing to take the next big step into high school. This final year is all about responsibility, reflection, and leadership. It’s a time when students take pride in who they have become and begin to consider how they want to contribute to their world. We are currently in the process of planning for 2026 Student Leadership positions, a significant opportunity for students to step up and be role models for younger peers. It’s inspiring to see the maturity and dedication that our senior students demonstrate in this phase. We are also planning for other exciting end of year events for our Year 6 students – watch this space!!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of accompanying our Year 1 and Year 2 students as they embraced the opportunity to participate in the GATEWAYS enrichment program. Mrs Davies joined Year 4-6 students on Wednesday and had the opportunity to reconnect with some colleagues and have valuable conversations around curriculum and pedagogy. We were incredibly proud of how these students embraced these learning opportunities, representing our school with confidence and enthusiasm. Programs like GATEWAYS help nurture a love of learning and support students in discovering their strengths and interests. We look forward to seeing how these experiences continue to inspire their educational journey.

Road Safety Awareness

This week is National Road Safety Week and is an initiative of the Safer Australian Roads and Highway Group to highlight the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it.  Our Year 11 and 12 students had a half-day docudrama from RACQ last Friday which took them through the fatal 5 and other situations relevant to learner and P-plate drivers.  This week , during our assembly, we have the Department of Transport and Queensland Police Service talking to the Year 7-12 students about E-Bike and E-Scooter safety and rules/regulations.

Respectful Relationships

This week we have engaged a company “Bully Zero” from Melbourne to present a session to our Year 7-10 students on respectful relationships.  This presentation known as “Thrive” will focus on the connections our students make both at school and in their own community.

100 Days of School Remaining for Year 12

Many schools celebrate 100 days of completed school for their Prep students during the year.  We are flipping this concept around and will recognise 100 days of Year 12 remaining for our Year 12 cohort.  The date for this achievement falls on Wednesday May 28 and our Year 12’s will have a pyjama dress up day and a pizza lunch to celebrate this milestone.

Student Services

We very are proud to be implementing the first year of our Resilience Project journey at PBC. Our Secondary students are engaging in weekly lessons to understand and strengthen their practice of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness, and Emotional Literacy. Connection with this content as a family consolidates this learning for our young people. A great way to do this is through “GEM Chats” – here is one to try:

Sporting Achievements

We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students in recent district and regional sporting events.

Congratulations to Liam R (Year 7), Braxton A (Year 7), and George C (Year 6) on their selection to the Sunshine Coast 10–12yrs Boys Football Team.

A special well done to Ryan R (Year 7) and Louis N (Year 5), who were selected for the Noosa District 10–12yrs Cross Country Team, and to Zoe V (Year 5) for her selection in the Noosa District 10–12yrs Girls Tennis Team.

Additionally, our Peregian Beach 10–12yrs Cross Country Team achieved an impressive 3rd place on average points – a fantastic result that reflects the determination and team spirit of our students. Well done to all involved!

Spotlight on Careers and VET Pathways

RACQ Docudrama

Last Friday, Peregian Beach College welcomed Dave Terry, Education Officer from RACQ, to deliver the impactful RACQ Docudrama Program to our senior students. This powerful road safety initiative combined real-life scenarios, interactive discussion, and thought-provoking content to highlight the consequences of risky driving behaviours. Through role-play, video, and expert guidance, students explored the realities of road trauma and the importance of making safe, informed choices as young drivers and passengers. We thank RACQ and Dave Terry for delivering such a meaningful and engaging program. Feedback from students about this initiative was extremely positive. Nina, our College Captain had this feedback, “Dave was relatable, and the delivery of the program was age appropriate, direct, interesting and very informative.”

Careers & Pathways – Subject Selection

3rd June from 4-6pm

As part of our Subject Selection Afternoon on 3 June, we’re excited to welcome a range of industry experts and training providers who will be available to offer valuable insights and guidance in the Careers and Pathways space. Their presence will help students explore real-world study and employment options aligned with their strengths and interests, supporting informed decision-making about the future. This valuable opportunity will feature representatives from:

  • University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC)
  • Australian Defence Force (ADF)
  • MEGT
  • Inscope Training
  • Regional Training Services (Business Management, Tourism, Retail, Hospitality, Administration, and Outdoor Power)
  • Barrington College (Diploma of Business)
  • East Coast Apprenticeships (wet trades)

We encourage all students and families to engage with these opportunities, ask questions, and begin planning for life beyond school—it’s never too early to start shaping your pathway.

JET & SET Planning Meetings – Mapping the Future Together

4th – 13th June

As part of our commitment to supporting every student’s future success, Peregian Beach College is preparing to launch the next round of Junior and Senior Education and Training (JET and SET) Plan meetings, scheduled from 4 to 13 June. If you have not yet made an appointment through the link which has been sent out by the College office, please do so.

For Year 9 students, the Junior Education and Training (JET) Plan provides a structured framework for early career exploration. It encourages students to begin thinking intentionally about their interests, strengths, and learning styles as they start shaping their future goals. The JET Plan lays the groundwork for informed subject selection and senior pathway decisions in Year 10 and beyond. These meetings are an important milestone for students and families to work collaboratively with the College in supporting personalised and purposeful learning journeys. Invitations and booking information will be sent home shortly, and we encourage all families to attend and take part in these meaningful discussions.

For Year 10 students, the Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan is a personalised roadmap designed to guide students through their final years of schooling and into their post-school pathway—whether that’s university, TAFE, apprenticeships, training, or employment. Developed in partnership with parents/carers, the SET Plan ensures students are selecting the right subjects and opportunities aligned with their career aspirations and academic needs. These meetings are a wonderful opportunity to work collaboratively with families, providing support for every student to thrive in their chosen future.

Year 10 Work Experience – A Week of Discovery and Growth Ahead

16th – 20th June

This term, Year 10 students at PBC will step beyond the classroom and into the workforce through our Work Experience Program—a valuable opportunity to explore career pathways, gain hands-on industry experience, and develop essential skills for the future. Students will be placed across a wide range of local businesses and organisations in sectors such as health, education, trades, technology, hospitality, and the arts. Whether supporting in classrooms, observing healthcare, or shadowing professionals in IT, real estate, retail, or sport, they will gain insight into real workplace expectations. Work Experience encourages confidence, communication, and career clarity, and we thank the businesses and staff supporting this initiative. As students take this important step, we encourage them to embrace each opportunity with curiosity and enthusiasm, proudly upholding our College values as they RISE. If you child has not yet secured their workplace, please have them come and see me in the Library Careers Hub as soon as possible. We will work together to secure a placement.

Robotics in Action

Over the last few weeks, 5.2 students have been exploring the exciting world of robotics using Lego Spike. They worked collaboratively to build and code their own robots, testing not only their design and programming skills but also their cooperation, creativity, and resilience.

I loved seeing students shine in different ways—some showed fantastic teamwork, others brought innovative ideas to life, and many overcame challenges through persistence and problem-solving. The classroom buzzed with enthusiasm as groups worked together to create something truly epic.

I’m incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing how they apply these valuable skills in future projects!
