Secondary - Aiming to achieve
Students in Years 7- 12 experience a rich and varied curriculum within our Secondary School social and learning community. The curriculum is presented by a team of specialist teachers who plan and deliver learning experiences to interest and challenge adolescents and young adults.

Curriculum
Teachers design and implement courses of study and Queensland Studies Authority subject frameworks and guidelines. The Secondary School will be upgrading the curriculum to meet the new National Curriculum Standards to begin implementation in 2012.

Years 7 and 8
The curriculum is presented by a team of specialist teachers who plan and deliver learning experiences in 12 subjects.  All Year 7 and 8 students study: English; Mathematics; Science; Art; Home Economics; Business Studies; Italian; History; Geography; Physical Education; Drama and Music.

Curriculum
Students spend the majority of their time with their class teacher who teaches English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography. In addition to these subjects students have specialist teachers for LOTE (Italian), Music, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Library and Information Technology.

While the Queensland Studies Authority syllabus is followed, Staff are progressively implementing the National Curriculum.  Staff undergo professional development on a regular basis to ensure that the current pedagogical practices underpin daily practices.

Small class sizes and flexibility within the College framework allow the teachers to focus on individual needs in a caring and nurturing environment.

Students of the twenty-first century need to have the skills and strategies to participate effectively in society by being equipped with the knowledge, attitudes, understanding, skills and tools that enable meaningful interactions. The teaching and learning program in Upper Primary is supported by the integration of learning technologies including iPads and iPods. Students are able to access resources within and beyond the classroom walls.

Social Development
This experience of schooling encompasses not only the formal curriculum structured around the key learning areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Studies of Society and the Environment, Technology, The Arts, Languages other than English, and Health and Physical Education, but also addresses the social, emotional and physical development of students through activities and programs within and outside the classroom.

Our approach in Pastoral Care and Discipline is to encourage students’ personal growth and the development of self-discipline through building strong, supportive relationships between peers, and between students and their teachers. The College implements the You Can Do It” social skills program to foster the development of the five key areas which include;

  • Confidence
  • Persistence
  • Resilience
  • Organization
  • Getting along

Children in the Upper Primary have the opportunity to attend school camp where the focus is on team building exercises and co-operation in addition to excursions and learning experiences by visiting specialists. The extra-curricular program includes a variety of optional music, dance and sporting activities.
